Just hear me out

You guys are probably tired of listening, and reading, about Tim Tebow. The guy's name is everywhere. He's become one of the most popular people in the country.  Everyone is talking about him. I just want to share with you what I think of him. So just hear me out.

This "Tebow-mania" has been around for a few years now.  It began when he was the starting quarterback at Florida.  Tebow displayed a strong disciplined football player who wasn't ashamed of expressing his beliefs.  As a Christian, I've admired what he has done throughout these past few years.  He's not afraid to tell you that he's pro-life and a virgin who is waiting for marriage. After winning two BCS championships and a Heisman trophy at Florida, Tebow is now making history in the NFL. There has never been a sports figure like him.  His likability has been spreading like a wildfire.  Earlier this year, he was drafted to the Denver Broncos.  All the skeptics began to voice their criticism about his "playing ability." He's been talked about nearly every day on ESPN since April.  Brett Favre, Tony Romo, and Tiger Woods seem like nobodies compared to the amount of discussions about him on sports networks. Despite what all his critics have been saying about his passing ability, the man is 6-1 as a starter this season. He took an anemic 1-4 Broncos team and has turned them into a playoff contender.  His 4th quarter comebacks combined with his indelible passion has breathed new life back into this football team. They're now a big threat in their division. These next few weeks will be very interesting and will determine his future with the Denver Broncos.

His football ability is outstanding and baffling at the same time.  But his love for Christ is really what is causing all the commotion around the country. The guy is a devout Christian.  That already makes him a clear target for the media. Players have mocked his praying in games and other players have complained that he talks about his Jesus way too much.  I watched Skip Bayless' (Tebow's biggest fan) interview with Tebow.  Skip asked him about Jake Plummer's comments which said that he was tired of hearing Tebow talk about his faith.  Tebow's response was perfect.  He compared expressing his love for Christ to the relationship between a husband and wife.  He asked should a man tell his wife he loves her on their wedding day and then not say it again? No. He should tell her that every day.  That's the way he feels about Christ.  He deserves an I love you every single day because of what he did on the cross for us. That was just an awesome response.

Tebow is a leader.  People follow -and will continue to follow- him because of the character he displays. He's a role model for me and should be for any guy out there.  He's a tough guy who has to fight through all the scrutiny on TV and all the hits on the field. I respect him for what he has done and what he continues to do.  Many people will keep on hating him for whatever reason.  Maybe because his goodness offends them or maybe because he doesn't play football the "right way." Or maybe it's because he stands for something bigger than himself.  He stands for something that is powerful and convicting at the same time.  He stands for Christ.  As believers, we have to be encouraged that there are guys like this in the entertainment world who are for Christ and are not ashamed to admit it.  That's Tebowing.
